Garage Pads

Thickness of your concrete slab and thickened edge are determined by what you will be parking inside the garage and what kind of structure you will be building on top of your concrete floor.  Our minimum thickness that we pour is a 5” pad with a 12” thickened edge around the perimeter of the slab. For larger projects we pour a 6” pad with a 16” thickened edge. For a detached Garage the first step, is that an excavation will be done.  Once the excavation is completed formwork will then be erected and heights will be established.  Depending on the homeowner or the builder’s preference we may slope the pad 10% from back to front to ensure proper drainage of any water runoff to escape at the garage door instead of having standing water, or we will install a drain in the floor. After we have our forms up, we will fill in the area with 4-6” ¾ down gravel, wet it then pack it. We then lay out and tie 10mm rebar. The rebar layout will be 16” on center. The rebar in the thickened edge will have 2 15mm bars on top and 2 15mm bars on the bottom, with stirrups holding them all in place every 32” Once all the prep work is completed, we will pour with 32 MPA concrete. Power trowel finish on the concrete will be then be achieved. The day after the pour we will saw cut the concrete for expansion joints, strip forms and preform a full site clean-up.
